NGC Coin Grading and Authentication

NGC’s experienced team has graded and authenticated more coins than any other grading service. After the coins have been graded they are encapsulated in a state-of-the-art holder, the same tested and used by the Smithsonian Institution, the national museum of the United States. Coins certified by NGC are backed by the comprehensive NGC Guarantee.

Most World coins are accepted for grading, and NGC graders will evaluate them on the 1 to 70 Sheldon grading scale accepted worldwide. Coins with detrimental surface conditions are given a Details grade and a description of the problem is noted on the label. NGC will not encapsulate coins that are not genuine, have questionable authenticity, or are altered. Coins with residue should be sent to Numismatic Conservation Services (NCS) for professional conservation prior to grading by NGC.
